The 2024 Hospital Cost Reporting Training is designed to equip participants with a deep understanding and practical insights into the Medicare cost report and its significant impact on hospital reimbursements.

Attendants will participate in the following learning objectives:

Level 1

A focus on foundational knowledge is crucial for understanding Medicare’s complex reimbursement framework. Participants will delve into the history and mechanisms of Medicare reimbursement for hospitals, learning the critical role of the cost report in determining payments. This level also covers an analysis of reimbursement under the prospective payment system (PPS) while exploring special Medicare designations that offer benefits to hospitals. This comprehensive introduction sets the groundwork for effectively assessing and addressing unique reimbursement issues within healthcare organizations.

Level 2:

This level emphasizes understanding the Medicare cost report settlement process, including its components, and the timing of settlements. It also covers occasions for hospitals to influence key factors in PPS reimbursement, including Medicare DSH, Indirect Medical Education (IME)/Graduate Medical Education (GME), and the wage index, along with unique challenges faced by Critical Access Hospitals. Through this detailed exploration, participants gain the tools to navigate the complexities of Medicare reimbursements, identifying strategic opportunities to enhance their organizations’ financial and operational performance.

Educational Credits

There are up to 30 CPE credits available for participants, pending approval, within the Specialized Knowledge field of study. These credits are distributed based on participation in various segments of the program: Level I offers up to 15 hours, Level II’s Prospective Payment System (PPS) Track up to 5 hours, the General Session up to 6 hours, and the Critical Access Hospital (CAH) Track up to 4 hours. CPE credits are awarded upon verification of participant attendance during the live broadcast.
